Google vs. the US vs. China

Apparently when you face a congressional committee set up to get their pound of flesh, you're not going to look good.

Google and Yahoo! Take a Beating

"Yeah, so what?" you ask. Here's the irony of it all...
The Republican chairman of the committee, New Jersey's Chris Smith, then announced his intention to introduce a bill this week which would "formalise the goals of a new State Department task force to help American technology companies protect freedom of expression in countries that censor online content".

The bill, Smith explained, would include "export controls on certain types of hardware and software and prohibit putting email servers and other assets in countries that lack US-style due process laws."
So after haranging these corporate leaders about their social responsiblity, Congress is going to put more restrictions on these companies. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

But the quote of the story has to come from the Honorable Tom Lantos who said "Your abhorrent activities in China are a disgrace. I simply do not understand how your corporate leadership sleeps at night."

I'm going to guess they sleep on top of a pile of money with many beautiful ladies.
